After the many setbacks and then the disappointment of not being able to plant on 5/6 December 2022, we had a great surprise on 6 January 2023 to see the beds all looked very neat and compacted soil removed. This also worked out well as it was rather wet come 10 January, when it was scheduled to be done!
This meant that volunteers could do the more enjoyable work of planting. So on 10 January, despite the rain, we had volunteers from the wider community in Sutton, as well as our Hackbridge Litter Group and local residents. Idverde had looked after the plants we had ordered since December and brought to site, along with new top soil and helped us.
This is one of the largest sites of our Plant up Hackbridge project, which will hopefully have a big impact when the bulbs and perennials are in flower. As the bulbs were planted later than we liked, we will have to wait and see how long it takes them to grow!
