Planning for the Future – Government’s proposed new planning system

The Government are proposing a big shake up of the planning system and the consultation to respond closes on 29 October 2020.

What does this mean for neighbourhood planning and indeed Sutton Council’s Local Plan? In essence the proposal splits planning into three categories:-

• Growth – areas suitable for substantial development, and where outline approval for development would be automatically secured for forms and types of development specified in the Plan; 
• Renewal – areas suitable for some development, such as gentle densification; and 
• Protected – areas where development is restricted.
